A Tisket, A Tasket, I'm Going to Fill My Basket

With strawberries!
Tuesday afternoon Annelise and I went with some friends to a local farm to pick strawberries.

Annelise took her new job seriously and was on a mission to fill her bucket.

She loved looking under the leaves and finding the red berries, hastily plucking them and moving on to the next plant. Can you say driven?

She stopped occasionally to ponder the complexities of the berry. Or life.
And catch a few lovebugs. (On her arm.)
She was so focused on picking and checking in with the precious twin boys that were with us, that she never ate any strawberries until the very end.

I can't believe how many berries we picked! Something even came over me out there among the rows, I just could not stop picking. I was berry possessed. Look, there are more over there...pick...there are some bright red ones there...pick, pick. We ended up with over 6 pounds of berries! Annelise gave some to her sweet teacher yesterday, but we still have a lot. We've been piling them on cereal, oatmeal and salads. They are delightful with just about everything. I just hope I don't get a rash.

We are counting the days til the strawberries come in at our local farm! (A little later in the North for us Yankees...) It is one of our favorite all-time activities!

Oh, I loved this post. Strawberries will be ready around here in a couple of weeks. Can't wait! Last year's pickings stayed good in the freezer all year. I heard that if you lay them out on a cookie sheet and freeze them before bagging them, they'll stay good all year. It worked! I had strawberry lemonade and smoothies whenever I wanted. Good stuff!

I don't do so well picking strawberries...

I eat most of em, my face has a red pallor, seeds are in my teeth, and my clothes have red marks everywhere.

However, I AM happy ;)

I've heard that too about freezing them flat first, then bagging them. I might try that, if I can squeeze out some freezer space from all my low calorie frozen treats!

Oh, I have to find out if there's anywhere here I can go do that. That sounds DIVINE. I love fresh strawberries. I eat myself sick on them.

that looks like sooo much fun! I had so many memories picking blueberries when I was growing up! So fun to pick and then eat, and then pick, and then eat, etc., etc.! A. is such a sweet, sweet girl! Please tell her that 'Fifi' is welcome to come over and stay with Ashlyn anytime she wants, and she is welcome too! ;)
