It's much faster than taking the stairs.
It makes really loud rumbly-thuddy noises as your feet hit the spindles and squeaky noises as your hands slide on the banister. Cool.
You feel like you are flying. Awesome.
You get to scare your parents in one fell swoop. Or slide. Priceless.

I cannot imagine trying to do that now, can you? It would be painful, embarrassing and would most likely result in me flipping over the front edge of the banister. Oh to be 5 again!
She occasionally test slides different shirt materials to see which slide the best/fastest. Her nightgowns have proven to be the fastest so far.
I've never tried to slide...too chicken I guess.
